Your local shop and cafe - a delightful place to visit
Our community shop stocks all the essentials you need, as well as local specialties and artisanal favourites from nearby growers. Our manager Louise, supervisors Nicky and Steph, and the rest of The Walled Garden team look forward to welcoming you.
The café features a range of delicious cakes, snacks and drinks, including barista coffee. Enjoy this in the building or on our covered terrace, both of which overlook the garden.
After extensive restoration, the Victorian walled garden hosts an amazing array of plants, a variety of heritage fruit trees and interesting features, and is a peaceful and attractive place to visit. We also host occasions and events in the garden.
Community Benefit Society
We’re a community benefit society, a form of cooperative. All money raised by the business goes back into the business, for the benefit of everyone in the community. You can become a member, and we would encourage you to find out more about this on your visit, or apply on our website.
Our Management Committee
Plumstead lost its local shop in 2016, which prompted some local people to look into the possibility of building a community-run shop and café. In partnership with the Little Plumstead Hospital, a management commitee was formed, and soon got to work raising money. After several years of hard work, the café and shop opened its doors in October 2020.
