As you would expect, a community-owned shop and café is staffed by volunteers as well as our paid manager Louise and supervisors Nicky and Steph.
Volunteering in our shop or café is a really good way to meet new people and make new friends, as well as to contribute to your community.
Steph started out volunteering with us and is now a paid member of staff so you never know where volunteering may lead!
If you’d like to know what it’s like to volunteer with us, watch this video made by volunteer Simon Curtis.
We also need people with a keen interest in gardening to help restore and maintain our walled garden - you can join our Friends of the Walled Garden group.
For me, it’s the social aspect, teamwork and doing something to help the community. Now more than ever having an outlet from home and a chance to safely see and engage with people whilst also making a contribution to the community. Watching the project progress into a beautiful environment/local community garden with meetings for drinks whatever the weather and serving the local residents, being a useful person to society, seeing new people and escaping the stress of my paid job in the current situation. For me it is definitely the social aspect of the job, and a bit like putting on an old pair of slippers! Comfortable! As well as the things everyone else has mentioned, I’ve also enjoyed learning new things, like using the coffee machine.

No experience is necessary, and even if you can only spare a few hours a week, your contribution will help to provide a much needed community service.
If you’d like to volunteer in the shop, café or garden we’d love to hear from you. Please drop in any time during our opening hours, or email us to let us know how you’d like to be involved: shop@thewalledgardenshop.co.uk
